Dear Santa Clara University Community,
Welcome to the Week 5 edition of the Prepared SCU Weekly Roundup. In this short Friday digest, we share key information related to SCU’s response to COVID-19.
COVID-19 Dashboard Update
This past week, the University had a 7-day test positivity rate of 0.1%, lower than the 1.1% positivity rate in Santa Clara County and 2.1% in California. Track our progress on our COVID-19 Dashboard.
Return to Campus After Thanksgiving
A majority of classes will meet in person after Thanksgiving break. Students should contact individual faculty members for additional details.
Weekly Testing
The testing protocol and schedule for campus residents will include testing during the final two weeks of the term to protect the community as well as students and their families as they leave for winter break. Off-campus and symptomatic students are strongly encouraged to test weekly even if they are not attending face-to-face classes. Testing is necessary to protect our community and student families when they leave campus for winter break.
Campus Testing Compliance
On-campus residents who have missed more than two weekly tests will have a hold on their record and will not be able to register for winter quarter classes. Notifications are going out this week to those students at risk for holds. As a reminder: all residence hall students, regardless of vaccination status, are required to test each week, as are other students with approved exemptions.
Test Kit Locations
Test kits can be picked up and dropped off in residence halls or the following buildings across campus:
- Benson (info desk in east lobby)
- St Joseph’s Hall (lobby)
- Dowd Hall (lobby)
- Lucas Hall (lobby)
- Vari Hall (lobby)
- SCDI (lobby)
- Guadalupe Hall (Office of Graduate Admissions and Student Services, 1st floor)
Vaccines and Booster Shots
Please note that the Food and Drug Administration has approved boosters for the J&J and Moderna vaccines for certain populations. We will work with Santa Clara County to host a second vaccine clinic on campus in January. The Santa Clara University COVID Health Team leads are monitoring Santa Clara County vaccination statistics and caseloads to ensure a safe winter quarter for students, faculty, and staff.
Classroom Exposure
In this Prepared SCU video David Hess, Associate Professor of Biology, and a member of Prepared SCU’s Health Team, answers questions surrounding COVID-19 classroom exposures and shares information about the right time to test and when you need to isolate.
As always, please email us at covid19@scu.edu if you have any questions.
Stay safe and well,
SCU COVID-19 Operations Team
