"The phrase “executive function” refers to a set of skills. These skills underlie the capacity to plan ahead and meet goals, display self-control, follow multiple-step directions even when interrupted, and stay focused despite distractions, among others.” (Harvard University, 2024)
What affects Executive Function skills:
- Any disturbance to the brain tissue that might affect the frontal lobe (the part of the brain that manages executive functions).
- Disability (i.e., ADHD, Autism, Learning difficulties, etc.)
- Brain damage (i.e., Alzheimer’s disease, Brain tumors, Dementia)
- Other factors (i.e., stress, loneliness, lack of sleep, and lack of exercise)
No One Is Born with Executive Function Skills,
but Nearly Everyone Can Learn Them.
