Global Justice for Women Symposium Being Held at Santa Clara University Feb. 19.
Headlined by CEO of the Global Fund for Women, topics will include trafficking, economic equality and safety of women worldwide.
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 11, 2016 — Some of the most pressing legal and social issues confronting women worldwide will be the topic of a daylong legal symposium at Santa Clara University Feb. 19. The internationally known CEO of the Global Fund for Women, Dr. Musimbi Kanyoro, will be the keynote speaker.
The symposium, Global Justice for Women: Advancing Equality, is being presented from 8:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. by the Santa Clara University School of Law’s Santa Clara Journal of International Law and Center for Global Law and Policy. It will take place in Bannan Hall Room 139. There is a $75 fee for attorneys seeking MCLE credit. Registration is required, and media are invited to attend.
The keynote speaker will be the president and CEO of Global Fund for Women, Dr. Musimbi Kanyoro, one of the world’s best-known voices speaking on behalf of women and girls’ health and human rights. She has written and given speeches on issues including technology access, violence and mutilation of women, climate issues and capacity-building. She holds doctorates in both linguistics and feminist theology, and is a veteran leader with three decades of experience managing international non-governmental organizations, global programs, and ecumenical agencies.
She serves on several international boards and working groups including the Aspen Leaders Council, the UN High level Taskforce for Reproductive Health, CARE, and the UN Women Civil Society Advisory Board and PEPFAR Scientific Advisory Board.
Other speakers at the symposium will appear on panels to discuss human trafficking and immigration issues; health and safety; economic equality; and effective ways of being “agents of change.” The full schedule can be found here.
