A local tradition for well over 40 years, Prof. Belotti’s forecast is widely anticipated among Bay Area business leaders, bankers, nonprofit leaders and students, whom Prof. Belotti advises on economic issues. Tickets regularly sell out in advance.

Last year, Prof. Belotti correctly projected that U.S. GDP would grow by about 3 percent, and that inflation would average about 2 percent for the year.

This year he is predicting continued economic improvement, while keeping a watchful eye on the price of petroleum, the declines in which he expects to be good in the long run but continue to be problematic in the short run. He’s also looking for an increase in the value of the dollar, a problem for some export-oriented companies.
