Santa Clara University hosts A Conversation with 49ers CEO Jed York
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 6, 2014-- Celebrating another successful season, 49ers CEO Jed York will discuss the future of his team and their move south in Santa Clara University’s President’s Speaker Series on Jan 15. The event begins 7:30 pm at SCU’s Mayer Theatre and will explore the important relationship between sports franchises and their neighbors.
The 49ers are set to play in the brand new Levi’s Stadium just miles from SCU’s campus for the 2014 season. York is in his fourth year as chief executive officer of the football team, and, during this time, has overseen an organizational renaissance. Over the past three seasons the 49ers have not only succeeded on the field, with a trip to the Super Bowl, but will also bring the 2016 Super Bowl to the new Santa Clara stadium.
York spearheaded a successful ballot measure for the first LEED-certified NFL stadium in 2010. He also helped make the team’s new home a reality by securing $200 million in NFL support and plans to make innovation and sustainability the primary areas of focus for the project. This includes building one of the NFL’s strongest wireless internet connections and developing software, including a mobile app, that will allow fans to have a paperless, cashless game day experience.
Born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, York attended the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a degree in finance and history. Before joining the 49ers, York began his career as a financial analyst at Guggenheim Partners, a diversified financial services firm.
Tickets for the event are $25 and can be purchased at www.scu.edu/visitors/speakerseries/2014/york/index.cfm .
