SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 3, 2102 — Santa Clara University mathematics Senior Lecturer Laurie Poe was honored as one of the country's best undergraduate teachers by the education-services company The Princeton Review and the review site RateMyProfessors.com.

In a newly released book, The Best 300 Professors, Poe is praised for her personalized and engaged approach to teaching calculus, statistics and finite mathematics to undergraduates.  Students on RateMyProfessors.com describe her as a "hilarious" teacher who "breaks up boring math with funny stories" and made one student "wish she was my best friend."

"We’d like to congratulate our senior lecturer, Laurie Poe, on this honor," said Dennis Smolarski, S.J., chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Santa Clara University. "It’s a great skill to teach mathematics with the enthusiasm and liveliness that her students so enjoy."

Santa Clara University is also featured in the book, which praises the Jesuit, Silicon Valley-based private University as a "cozy school"  in a "beautiful, sunny location," where the "focus on community service and volunteerism" make it "perfect for the socially conscious." The book says students will get "a lot of one-on-one attention" from attentive professors who are "dedicated to the success of the student."

The Best 300 Professors is a joint project of The Princeton Review and RateMyProfessors.com – the highest-trafficked college-professor ratings site in the U.S. The final list took into account qualitative and quantitative data from student-survey findings and ratings collected by both entities.  A complete list of the professors in the book is accessible at www.princetonreview.com/best-professors.aspx.

The Princeton Review is not affiliated with Princeton University and is not a magazine.
