Dear Colleagues,
During this Thanksgiving week, I am grateful for the blessings I find in abundance on our campus. Our community continues to show care by wearing masks indoors, testing, and even getting booster vaccines against COVID-19. We saw joy and togetherness at recent events like Grand Reunion and the dedications of the Stephen C. & Patricia A. Schott Athletic Excellence Center and the John A. and Susan Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation. And across campus, many are helping us uphold and enhance our Jesuit mission, and journey toward greater diversity and racial justice.
As the holiday season arrives, I know there are those among us who suffer, perhaps from the loss of loved ones, the ongoing pain of racial injustice in our country, or from the distance required by COVID-19. May we all draw upon the love and support of our community this Thanksgiving, showing one another God’s grace and care, and find rest and restoration during our time with friends and family.
Finally, it is important at this time of year, and every day, to give thanks for the opportunity to live, work, learn and pray on the traditional homeland of the Ohlone and Muwekma Ohlone people. I recommend the wonderful SCU Native History Tour, created by three SCU professors and representatives from the Ohlone community, as a way to learn more about the history and presence of the Ohlone and Muwekma Ohlone people here on our campus and in our region.
Wishing you and your loved ones a peaceful and joy-filled Thanksgiving.
