Dear Members of the University Community,
Today we received the sad news that one of our students, junior business student Justin Ebner, has died.
As a community we grieve with Justin’s family and friends while also remembering the gift of his life and his presence among the Santa Clara community. Justin, from San Jose, was a graduate of Bellarmine College Prep, had been studying accounting in the Leavey School of Business, and had an internship lined up at Ernst and Young in San Francisco in the summer of 2022. He was a peer advisor for the Leavey School, a practice player for Santa Clara’s women’s volleyball team, as well as a member of Sigma Pi fraternity.
We offer our deepest condolences to his family—his father John ’89, a member of the Leavey School of Business advisory board; his mother DeDe; as well as his older brother, Ryan, a Santa Clara Class of 2020 business major and fellow Sigma Pi fraternity member.
Losing a member of our community, especially a dear friend and treasured classmate, brings up grief and sadness across our campus. I encourage those who are suffering to reach out for assistance. Members of Campus Ministry, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Leavey School of Business, Residence Life and the Office of Student Life are available to assist those who need comfort and support. Additional resources are below.
We will gather this Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in front of the Mission Church for a candlelight vigil to remember the gift of Justin’s life. All are invited to attend a 5 p.m. Sunday Mass in the Mission Church to pray for Justin’s family and friends and the SCU community. Alternatively, those who wish may convene in the Multifaith Sanctuary until 6 p.m. to share stories and offer solace to one another.
As a community of faith, we ask you to keep Justin and his family in your prayers. May he rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Lisa A. Kloppenberg
Acting President
