Koret Fellowships 2017-2018

Alejandro Zepeda Fellowship 17-18
Alejandro Zepeda
Economics major and MIS & Business Analytics, Class of 2020

I chose Economics classes that focus mainly on the Spanish and European economies. Not only do these courses allow me to fulfill major and minor requirements but they also introduce me to the critical decision making and focuses of European Union and Spanish government. The first course deals with Spain’s economic development and modernization as it continues to integrate into the EU. It focuses on analyzing the structural problems of the Spanish economy with emphasis on the current financial crisis and possible policy solutions to overcome to problem. The second course, European Regional Economics, examines the inevitable interdependence of European economies, specifically in a regional context. In addition to this, I plan to take a course on the history of Spain’s relationship with the Catholic Church with topics touching on religious identity, migrant religion, secularism, religious pluralism, and multiculturalism. In this class I hope to get a better understanding of the roots of my faith from the perspective of Spanish society and how that comes to influence my culture and
intersectional identity as a Catholic of Mexican heritage.
