I put a lot of thought into where I wanted to study abroad, and the Italy:
Rome/LUC program is the best one for my needs. Since I will only have 5.5
credits of Chemistry requirements left for senior year, specifically during Winter
‘19, most of the classes I will take abroad will count for core graduation
requirements. Choosing the LUC-Rome study abroad program is perfect for me
since it is one of a select few Jesuit study abroad programs, and therefore
provides the specific core classes such as ELSJ that I will still need to take. In
addition, I plan on taking my Arts Core requirement in the form of photography,
and my language requirement in the form of Italian. Furthermore, I have
declared a music minor because I wanted to study music in an academic way
after 12+ years of studying classical piano. However, music is still a strong passion of mine, and being able to take a music class abroad might be the only time I am able to explore music in the capacity that I have wanted to all along. The Intro to Opera in Rome class is especially exciting to me since it involves going to operas and learning about them in both critical and historical contexts, especially considering I have never seen an Opera firsthand. The final class I plan on taking abroad is Italian Culture: Food and Wine. This class fits into the same theme as all the others: that all of the classes I have chosen get me out of the classroom and into the Italian community, so that I can explore authentic Italian culture in a fully immersive experience.
