I am seeking funding for my study abroad experience. I will be participating in the DIS Copenhagen: Sustainability in Europe program during the Fall 2018 quarter. While participating in this program, I will receive academic credit for my Religion, Theology, and Culture 2 core requirement by taking a “Muslims in the West” religion class. I will also receive academic credit for my major, including one lower division class requirement through the “Renewable Energy Systems” class and two upper division requirements for my Green Business concentration through the “Sustainable Business Strategy” and “Sustainable Development in Europe” classes. This program is unique in that it is designed to expose me to sustainability in the context of multiple European countries. The program includes a week long study tour to Norway in order to analyze how a country so dependent on oil also makes heavy investments in sustainable industries, such as renewable energy, by visiting Statkraft, Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy. I will also visit companies and nonprofits that have adapted environmentally and socially responsible business models. Thus, in a way, this program incorporates two study abroad experiences in one.
