What Can We Do For You? How Can We Help You?

The Entrepreneurs’ Law Clinic (“ELC”) at Santa Clara University services the active local startup community by delivering quality legal services to entrepreneurs through the use of second-and third- year law students. Students will have an opportunity to work on a variety of transactions crucial to startup companies, such as business entity formation, financing, operational contracts, company policy, website terms of service, website privacy notices, employment contracts, trademark and copyright registrations, and intellectual property licensing. Students in the ELC not only spend time working on client projects, but they also attend seminars generally twice weekly which cover a variety of subject matter areas relevant to the current mix of ELC clients.

ELC students work on transactions crucial to startup companies, such as business entity formation, financing, operational contracts, company policy, website terms of service, website privacy notices, employment contracts, trademark and copyright registrations, and intellectual property licensing. Students engage with their clients at the beginning of each semester, and deliver client projects at the end of the semester. New clients are admitted to the ELC in August, January, and May of each year.

A “mini-clinic” in which business owners and entrepreneurs meet with experienced licensed pro bono business attorneys and business professionals along with student volunteers about business and legal challenges they may have. BEACH takes place over two brief sessions: 1) a scheduled informational interview, followed by 2) a scheduled advising session that takes place after students research solutions to the challenges the entrepreneur is facing.

Please note that no attorney-client relationship is formed in BEACH, so this is “office hours” informational advice. BEACH does not take on litigation (lawsuits), patent searches, or detailed tax advice.

“The work provided by the clinicians was extremely professional and I could not have asked for a better experience from the ELC program. The deliverable of the legal documents exceeded expectations and the corresponding write-ups detailing the reasoning behind each facet of both legal documents provided (privacy policy and terms of service) was extraordinarily helpful. Not only were the legal documents created for our company's current business positioning, the clinicians went above and beyond and detailed future items to keep in mind as our company grows."
