Christopher Staab, S.J., to Join JST-SCU's Faculty

The Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University is happy to welcome Fr. Christopher Staab to its faculty as a Professor of the Practice in Ignatian Spirituality, effective fall 2024.

The Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University is happy to welcome Fr. Christopher Staab to its faculty as a Professor of the Practice in Ignatian Spirituality, effective fall 2024.

Fr. Staab is a Jesuit of the Midwest Province and currently teaches at the Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. Fr. Staab is delighted to receive the appointment to join the faculty and the Jesuit community at JST-SCU, and he brings to this mission his passion for all things Ignatian. His interests in Ignatian spirituality range from the finer points of Ignatius of Loyola’s Spiritual Diary, a text of which he is currently preparing a new critical translation, to contemporary issues that involve the giving and the receiving of the Spiritual Exercises. His studies and work experiences in places like Perú, Brazil, Spain, and Italy have made him fascinated by cultures and sensitive to the lived experience of spirituality. He hopes to share his love for the Ignatian charism with students, faculty, and staff at JST-SCU, a love which may be best described as “an internal knowledge” of Ignatian sources and the God whom we meet in them.

Though much of his focus is on Ignatius of Loyola and the first companions, Fr. Staab, originally from Cleveland, Ohio, follows the baseball and football teams from his home city. And as an English major from John Carroll University, he also enjoys literature, poetry, and movies. He looks forward to teaching, working, and participating in the life of the university and the Jesuit community.

Welcome, Fr. Staab!
