Ciara Carrasco was born and raised on Long Island, New York and graduated from Stanford H. Calhoun High School. She graduated with the highest honors, including membership in the National Honor Society, the National Science Honor Society, the National Spanish Honor Society, and the National Art Honor Society.

Throughout high school, Ciara consistently combined her love for art and science. As an artist, Ciara was an active member of her school’s art club where she contributed to the creation and concepts for various school wide interactive art events along with her submission of the AP 2D design portfolio. Furthermore, Ciara was nominated by the art department for a 10-week intensive college level art program at Adelphi University. She also contributed as an active member of the science club and enjoyed various engineering technology classes where she explored and discovered her love for STEM. Ciara is particularly passionate about female involvement in STEM as she was one of the few young women to take interest in these topics. Ciara takes on a major in Mechanical Engineering hoping to combine her interests and encourage future women towards STEM career paths.

Out of the classroom, Ciara can be found weight lifting and exercising at her local gym. She was a sprinter for her school’s undefeated county champion track team along with 4 years of competitive cheerleading, serving as varsity captain of her cheer team. She then continued to take on assisting the junior varsity cheer team as she led and taught weight training practices to help encourage young female athletes towards weight lifting. The passion for her community led Ciara and her cheer team to participate in various community service events and fundraising activities which include support walks, “jump-a-tons”, and “cheer for a cure” to fundraise and raise awareness for breast cancer research.

Ciara is excited to share and continue exploring her interests at Santa Clara University. She is grateful for the opportunity to study alongside motivated students and to be a part of the Bronco Family and the Johnson scholars.
