Hometown: Plymouth, MA
Major: Sociology
Annie Yaeger was raised in Plymouth, MA, and has always known that she wanted to be a force for positive change. As she learned more about the issues facing our world today, she developed a passion for social justice. Annie’s
dedication to social progress led to her involvement in her school’s Allies For Equity Committee and the Interact Club, where she was able to broaden her worldview by exploring different perspectives and experiences within her own
town. In her senior year, she was the student representative in the hiring process of her school district’s first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion coordinator. Annie has been involved with the arts since elementary school, discovering a love for
theatre and taking an active role in her high school’s theatre guild as president and as a member of the International Thespian Society. While serving as the assistant music director for her school’s a cappella group, she co-directed a
music video for a nation-wide a cappella competition.
Outside of school, she has been an involved member of the community through volunteer work and internships. As high school liaison to Plymouth’s No Place For Hate Committee, she gave speeches on behalf of the group and worked to create social media content to educate those in her town about social issues. While completing an internship at Tidmarsh Native Plant Nursery, she found her love for
environmental justice and sustainability.
Annie graduated as Valedictorian of her high school class, and was the recipient of her town’s Outstanding Citizenship Award, the Brown Book Award, the AP Scholar with Distinction Award, and the first place prize in her district's National History Day competition.
Annie is looking forward to further exploring her passions for mathematics and social and environmental justice at Santa Clara. She hopes to use the intersection of these subjects to find new perspectives on some of today’s most
complex and multifaceted problems. While currently undeclared in the College of Arts and Sciences, she hopes to combine her interests through the study of sociology and math. Annie is grateful for the opportunity to be a Johnson
Scholar, and excited to begin her journey at Santa Clara University.
