Diversity Dashboard: SCU Overall

Population

Data are as of census and are an unduplicated headcount.

Includes:

  • SCU data directly from IPEDS

Function

The Diversity Dashboard highlights race/ethnicity and gender composition and representation data. The Office for Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of Institutional Research continue to refine the dashboard to provide more detailed demographics, trend analysis, additional success indicators, and additional campus climate indicators.

Special Notes

  • On October 19, 2007, the U.S. Department of Education posted to the Federal Register the "Final Guidance on Maintaining, Collecting, and Reporting Racial and Ethnic Data to the U.S. Department of Education." (See the Federal Register, Volume 72, Number 202, pp. 59266-59279). Educational institutions were required to implement this guidance no later than the beginning of the 2010-11 academic year.  The new race/ethnicity reporting categories were available for IPEDS reporting beginning Fall 2008; as a result, some institutions adopted the new collection standards for these categories and reported data using the new categories to IPEDS earlier than 2010-11.
  • To address a recommendation from the Blue Ribbon Commission on Diversity and Inclusion and the Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion to disaggregate race/ethnicity data, this dashboard presents pre- and post- 2010-11 race/ethnicity reporting categories separately. Race/ethnicity categories preceded with a ֍ (see legend) represent categories used to report data to IPEDS prior to 2010-11.  Race/ethnicity categories not preceded with a ֍ (see legend) represent categories used to report data to IPEDS beginning 2010-11. This permits, for example, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islanders to be reported separately from Asians beginning 2010-11. Users of prior versions of this dashboard will see slight changes in race/ethnicity data from 2010-11 forward.
  • Use caution when reviewing trends in race/ethnicity for years before and after 2010-11 as the race/ethnicity reporting categories to adhere to different data collection standards.  Click here and here for further details.
  • Underrepresented racial or ethnic minority (URM) and "of color" designations are used within the dashboard. URM is based on federal reporting requirements and includes domestic Black or African American, Latino/Hispanic, American Indian/Native American, and Pacific Islanders. However, due to collection limitations, Pacific Islanders are aggregated with Asian students in the SCU Dashboard. URM refers to racial and ethnic groups that are currently underrepresented in U.S. higher education compared to their representation among high school graduates. Asian students are not considered underrepresented racial or ethnic minorities in federal reporting. Asian and those who identify as "Two or more races" are included with URM categories in "of color" aggregations.
