Dr. Llamas is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling Psychology. She completed her Ph.D. in Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology at UCSB and a clinical fellowship at UCSF, specializing in Public Health and Minority Populations with an emphasis on Addictions. She is a current fellow in the NIH-funded National Research Mentoring Network Steps Towards Academic Research Training Fellowship Program. Her research focuses on addressing health disparities among disadvantaged and underserved populations, utilizing community-based and mixed method approaches. She has been involved in research projects examining ethnic minority mental health and wellness. She has worked within communities suffering from teen suicides, communities overcoming disaster, and currently within the local county to evaluate the effectiveness of program initiatives aimed at addressing health disparities for underserved families and children. Her current research is supported by a NIH National Cancer Institute Diversity Supplement and examines sociocultural factors impacting tobacco use among a community sample of ethnic minority young adults.
