John Ifcher teaches courses in microeconomics, the economics of the public sector, the economics of poverty and income inequality, and economic research methods. His recent research focuses on subjective wellbeing, social preferences, and social welfare programs. One recent paper investigates the impact of positive affect on time preference; another investigates the effect of the Earned Income Tax Credit on happiness. He has published articles in the American Economic Review; the B.E. Journal of Economic Analysis & Policy, the Eastern Economic Journal; Economic Inquiry; Experimental Economics; the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization; the Journal of Happiness Studies; the Journal of Neuroscience; Psychology, and Economics; Poverty, and Public Policy; and the Review of Economics of the Household. John Ifcher received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley. He also received a M.P.A. degree from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University and a B.S. in computer science and psychology from the University of Michigan. He worked for the city of New York as the Senior Advisor to the Parks Commissioner between 1993 and 1998.
