Cultivating Empathy

Maybe some of you are experiencing the same tension that we are here on campus. Students’ studies and activities are full steam ahead now that we’re in the middle of the quarter. At the same time, we hear such shocking news of violence and suffering around the world. Our response has been and will continue to be to provide opportunities and programs that cultivate students’ empathetic responses. Through our Jesuit commitment to cura personalis, we foster kinship and solidarity in our students when they accompany and learn from communities around the world. The story in this newsletter exemplifies those Jesuit values in action.

A Commitment to Solidarity

Little did Alice Fulton '25 know when she signed up for her first Experiential Learning for Social Justice (ELSJ) course through Arrupe Engagement that her experience would be so life-changing. Working at the College of Adaptive Arts not only provided Alice with a community and a unique family, but also it instilled in her a purpose and commitment to solidarity.

Arrupe Engagement

As we wrap up the first half of Fall quarter, we celebrate the impact of Arrupe Engagement. Over the course of the Fall quarter, we placed 396 SCU students from 16 different SCU courses, with 55 community programs, providing 6,336 hours of engagement.
