Jesuit Values Manifested
The work of the Ignatian Center strengthens communities and transforms students' lives through experiences of caring and accompanying others. As the academic year draws to a close, we're helping our students "name and claim" their experiences - to see themselves in light of our Jesuit values and to commit themselves to be people for and with others in their personal and professional lives. We know that our students are becoming the ambassadors of social justice, seeking to 'build a more human, just and sustainable world' through the programs and fellowships that the Ignatian Center offers. In the following story, you will hear from one of those students, Zoe Barton '24. Zoe is a graduating senior who has served as an Ignatian Fellow and wrote many of the stories you have enjoyed these past months about the impact of the ICJE programs.
While we usually showcase our students (and rightly so), let me take this opportunity to mention the amazing Ignatian Center staff. The impactful programs that the Ignatian Center provides for students, faculty, and staff are only possible through the creative and committed efforts of the Ignatian Formation group, the Community-Engaged Student Learning team, and the Operations group. And, of course, we could do nothing without you, our supporters and benefactors, who encourage us and have confidence in us as, together, we ignite the flame of Jesuit education at SCU. Thank you again for your support on last month’s Day of Giving - and always.
When it comes to Ignatian Center student leaders, Zoe Barton '24 has definitely experienced the value of a Jesuit education. Her journey began as an Ignatian Fellow two years running and is culminating as a prolific student writer with a natural curiosity and diligence to seek out stories of impact, including her own.
