New Perspectives
As we eagerly prepare for the fall quarter and the return of our wonderful students, we look forward to hearing what these past few months of summer have meant to them. Some may have returned home for much needed rest and family time, while others may have experienced a world outside of their comfort zones - through internships, fellowships, or immersion trips. In all cases, we hope that they will return to campus with new perspectives, greater clarity of vocation, and most importantly, hearts more open and more compassionate for others.
We are excited to welcome back our returning students, and look forward to meeting the next cohort of Broncos - the Class of 2027! Some of these new students will be taking part in the San Jose First Year Immersion that we offer the week before the quarter begins. This immersion allows students to make early connections with their peers, move into their dorm rooms early, and learn more about the greater San Jose area. This year alone 10% of the incoming class applied to participate in this increasingly popular, meaningful immersion. Our long term goal is to increase immersion experiences to meet this demand.
This Summer, the Ignatian Center hosted 9 students on an immersion trip to Chiapas, Mexico to learn about indigenous sovereignty and human rights. One of the attending students, Gema Sanchez Gamez '26, wrote about her experience visiting the coffee plantation of Petul, an indigenous farmer in the Yomol A'tel cooperative.
