Mary Atwell
Mary Hilger Atwell served as the President of the Catala Club between 2017-2019 and as President, she served as a Ex Officio member of the Board of Regents. She remains a member of the Executive Board of Catala as the current Past President.
Mary attended Xavier High School in Phoenix, AZ. She then attended Santa Clara, graduating in 1978, and from Santa Clara Law School in 1981. Mary practiced law in San Jose. She retired in 1996 to be a full time parent to her 2 children, Katie 30, and Jimmy 28. Jimmy graduated from SCU in 2014.
Mary’s husband Jim served as the Chairman of the Board of Fellows, where he has been a member since 1993. He graduated from SCU in 1977. Mary met Jim during her junior year at Santa Clara, and they were married in the Mission in 1980. Jim recently retired after years with Deloitte in San Jose.
Mary attended Santa Clara almost entirely on scholarship aid, work study and loans. Her passion for Santa Clara stems from her desire to “pay it forward.”
Mariel Caballero
Mariel Caballero has worked in politics and public policy for over fifteen years. In October 2017, Mariel became the first Deputy Director of Probation Administration. In May 2013, Mariel became a Program Manager for the Probation Department's Juvenile Services Division developing and implementing a Violence Reduction Program. Mariel was the Senior Management Analyst for the Office of Public Defender, she also served for three years on the staff of Congressman Mike Honda and three years on the staff of Santa Clara County Supervisor Blanca Alvarado.
In October 2019, Mariel was appointed to the San Jose Planning Commission and the Advisory Board of Santa Clara University's Ignatian Center. Mariel served for six years on the Board of Directors of the Latina Coalition of Silicon Valley, a local non-profit that strives to educate Latinas in the area of civic engagement. Mariel served on the East Side Union High School District Citizen's Bond Oversight Committee for four years.
Mariel earned her Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Santa Clara University in 2002 and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Golden Gate University in 2010. She was also awarded a certificate of completion for the Senior Executives in State & Local Government Program, June 2019, from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Executive Education.
Ignacio Guerrero
Ignacio J. Guerrero was appointed as Director for the Department of Child Support Services by the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors in 2015. Previously, Ignacio was the Deputy Director for the Alameda County Department of Child Support Services. Prior to this, he served as Deputy Director for the San Mateo County Department of Child Support Services. Ignacio has worked in County government for 25 years. He is a graduate of the University of California's Berkeley Executive Seminar, Stanford University's Leadership and Transformation Program, and the Harvard Kennedy School's Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Santa Clara University and Master’s Degree in Public Administration from San Jose State University. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his two teenage boys.
Tom Kelly
Alumnus Thomas F. Kelly '74 is a Silicon Valley technology industry veteran who has led both public and private companies through all stages of growth, which in some cases resulted in strategic acquisitions. He was most recently CEO of AccelOps, a leading provider of network security monitoring and analytics solutions. Prior to AccelOps, Kelly served as president and CEO at various technology companies, including Moxie Software Epicor and Blaze Software. Earlier in his career, he was a senior executive at Cirrus Logic and Cadence Design Systems. He has served on the boards of both public and private companies and is currently a board member at Fabrinet. Tom holds a B.S. degree in economics from Santa Clara University, where he is also a member of the board of regents.
Danny O'Malley
Danny is a Project Manager at Blach Construction Company. Since graduating with a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Santa Clara in 2017, he has worked on various projects throughout California, with a strong focus on education, affordable housing, and non-profit construction. He is passionate about enhancing our local communities and believes expressing gratitude has the power to “set the world on fire.”
Ron Pasek
Most recently, Mr. Pasek was the CFO of NetApp from April of 2016, till his retirement in March, 2020. He was previously CFO of Altera Corporation before the company was acquired by Intel Corporation in late 2015. Mr. Pasek also served as vice president and corporate treasurer at Sun Microsystems before his roles at Altera and Netapp. In his 19 years at Sun, he also held a variety of other positions in finance, including vice president of worldwide field finance, worldwide manufacturing finance, and U.S. field finance.
Ron has a B.S. in Business Administration from San Jose State, and an MBA from Santa Clara University.
Stephen Pitts, S.J.
Stephen Pitts SJ is a Jesuit priest who integrates direct work in sending and receiving migrant communities with research into the root economic causes of US-Mexico migration. He has a particular interest in building bridges between the academy and the field, in his case the US-Mexico border and rural agricultural communities in Latin America, and integrating social justice across the academic curriculum.
At present, he is a second year doctoral student in Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota, where he specializes in agricultural development and labor economics. Previously he worked for two years as Director of Religious Education at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in El Paso, TX, four blocks from the US-Mexico border. During this time, he helped host over twenty groups from US Jesuit institutions who participated in short-term border immersions as part of the Encuentro Project.Prior to his work in El Paso, Stephen studied theology at the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University from 2014-18. During this time, he concurrently completed a master's in International and Development Economics at the University of San Francisco. For his thesis data collection, he supervised a team that conducted 600 household surveys of indigenous coffee growers in the northern highlands of Chiapas served by the Jesuit Mission of Bachajón, a ministry of the Mexican Province of the Society of Jesus. Many of these growers participated in a coffee cooperative, Capeltic, and his thesis demonstrated that it increased market access and stabilized the household economy of the participants. He has since worked to help build relationships for Capeltic with Jesuit high schools, universities, and parishes in the United Status.Before entering the Jesuits, Stephen studied math and computer science at the University of Oklahoma, where he was active in Catholic campus ministry and spent his junior year at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Japan.
Vicki Pope
Vicki Pope graduated from Santa Clara University in 1977. After graduation, Vicki worked at Intel Corporation for 22 years mainly in the Production Planning Dept. as manager of the Microprocessor group. While at Intel and continuing afterward, Vicki volunteered her time at various schools and non-profits. Vicki believes that faith and education are cornerstones in our society.
Gregory Saldivar
Born and raised in San Jose, attended Bellarmine, SCU undergrad, BSC ‘74, SCU law JD ‘77. Married with three children, Kevin LMU, BA ‘08, Long Beach State, MA ‘13; Matt, SCU BS ‘08; Sarah, Chico State BA ‘09, SCU law ‘17.
Practiced criminal defense law for 10 years, and on the Santa Clara County Superior Court bench for 29 years.
Betsy Slattery
Betsy is a stay-at-home mother of three boys. She attended Miami University of Ohio and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica. With a background in marketing, she has worked in International Sales for DAP Inc. and in development for CollegeBound Foundation in Baltimore.
She now enjoys volunteering at her sons' schools and church, painting, and playing tennis.
Jim Slattery
Jim is the Chief Operating Officer of North America for Melrose, PLC, a London-based company that "buys, improves, and sells" companies that engage in the manufacture of highly engineered products. Prior to joining Melrose, Jim was the chief financial officer for McKenchie Aerospace in Placentia, California. Slattery has served as chief financial officer for 180s, Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse and DAP Products, Inc. and controller for Wassall PLC. He began his career with Coopers and Lybrand.
Jim received a bachelor's degree in accounting from The University of Scranton and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees at the University. Previously, Jim served as the Chair of the University's President's Business Council (PBC) Annual Award Dinner in 2013. He and his wife, Betsy, live in Peachtree City, GA, and have three sons John Michael '21, Daniel (16), and Shane (12).
Andie Sobrato
Andie is a Sr. Campaign Marketing Manager at ServiceNow, driving pipeline for IT products across the globe. Since entering the tech sector in 2012, she has launched various strategic projects, created digital campaigns and driven significant pipeline for the business. She is passionate about extracurriculars which include mentoring high school students and advising on the Ignatian Center Board at Santa Clara University. Previously, Andie worked as a Partner Marketing Manager at Splunk and the Channel Marketing Specialist at Check Point. She holds a B.S in Business, Marketing from Santa Clara University.
Angela Souza
I was raised, studied and worked in the San Francisco Bay area until 1988. My education background has been in Business and Administration. My husband, Ron and I moved to Seattle in 1989 to work at Microsoft. While at Microsoft I was a part of the Human Resources/Recruiting department. Ron and I have two sons, Eric and Keith. Our oldest son, Eric, attended Santa Clara where he met his bride. They are both proud Broncos Class of 2013! I currently split my time between Seattle and San Francisco. Over the years, I have worked on numerous charitable endeavors and have been especially called to assist with projects and programs that help children and young adults be better members of society and a force for good in the world. Some of these projects have taken me to Africa where I have witnessed the great power to transform lives with simple acts of kindness. Along with the Ignatian Center, I am currently involved with Catholic Relief Services and The Carter Center.
Lori Wiley
Lori is thrilled to be part of the Ignatian Center Board and is excited to bring her business and interpersonal skills to a cause so near to her heart. Lori and her husband Pat have lived and worked together in Seattle, Washington for the past 30 years. Their business develops and maintains large national databases as well as Commercial Real Estate. Lori grew up in Idaho and has 3 adult children, whom have all graduated from Santa Clara University. As an active volunteer both locally and globally, she believes in the power of community, of personal narrative, and empowering all people. She is a passionate supporter of organizations that serve the underserved. Lori enjoys coaching volleyball, hiking, running, traveling, adventure, sports and living with intention.
