The pandemic has significantly changed the world of work and has required extraordinary adjustment in work practices at the university. While these have been challenging times, we are also presented with an opportunity to re-examine business needs, reskill our workforce, retain new best practices, more effectively leverage technology, and address the needs and interests of our employees and student body. Maintaining the SCU brand, student experience, and our mission and values must remain the top priority. However, in order to remain competitive now and in the future in our efforts to recruit, retain, and engage a talented and diverse workforce, particularly in Silicon Valley, a balance must be struck between campus presence, delivering a world-class education grounded in our Jesuit values and mission, and more flexibility for our valued staff employees.

Santa Clara University’s Flexible Work and Remote Work policy was a collaborative effort “to address the needs of our workforce, and… allows for flexibility for staff while also providing a structure so that our constituents, particularly our students, are well-served.” - Molly McDonald, Chief of Staff, Office of the President.
