A Message from the Associate Provost for International Programs
At the forefront of my mind is the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Santa Clara University welcomes students from both Ukraine and Russia to our community and I am deeply saddened by the invasion that has already altered our world and will continue to impact our community in unforeseen ways. One of our Ukrainian students, a Jesuit named Vitaliy Olsmolovskyy was called to help during the conflict and you can read his profile in American Magazine. The U.S. designated Ukraine for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) which means that Ukrainians inside the U.S. may qualify for an extension of their visa, including our SCU Ukrainian students.
We continue to respond to the dynamic situation and have created a webpage about Russian invasion of Ukraine that curates updates, communication, actions you can take to support the people of Ukraine, and also support resources for all those impacted throughout our community.

2021-22 Faculty/Staff Funding for Global Initiatives Still Available. Are you interested in collaborating with a class at one of our international university partners or engaging an artist, musician or speaker with our campus? Faculty and staff from all departments are encouraged to apply for funding to support projects or initiatives that promote global diversity or that bring international or intercultural events to campus. Is your department interested in hosting an international scholar or researcher for Fall 2022? Faculty can submit Proposals to host a visiting researcher or scholar here by the May 1 deadline. Are you a faculty or staff member traveling abroad? Register Individual Faculty/Staff Travel. University-sponsored travel includes all student, faculty, staff travel funded or organized in any way through SCU as articulated in the University International Travel Policy and COVID-19 Addendum.
The 2021-22 Global Engagement Student Photo Contest is now open. The deadline for submissions is March 28. All students who studied abroad in 2021-22 and all international students are eligible to submit photos. Faculty, staff and students: Mark your calendar for the voting party for the Global Engagement Photo Contest, April 11, 3:00 - 5:30 p.m., Varsi Hall Lounge. All students, staff, and faculty are invited to view the photo contest finalists and cast their vote for the winning photos in-person.

Undergraduates: Consider adding an International Studies Minor to your degree.
Post-graduation employment opportunities for international students have expanded. The post-graduation employment OPT program allows international students to work in the United States up to three years after graduation. The expansion is part of a federal government strategy that recognizes how international students support the United States in maintaining global leadership in science and technology and includes 22 new fields of study that qualify.
The University welcomed one of the largest and most diverse groups of international students for Winter quarter/Spring semester with more than fifty new international students joining SCU. Our new students hail from Australia, Brazil, Cameroon, China, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Vietnam. International Students and Scholars supports 1,500 international students who are enrolled or on post-graduation employment.
Undergraduates can stay up to date on study abroad opportunities including summer programs, virtual internships and undergraduate research abroad by joining the study abroad mailing list.
Our study abroad cohort for 2022-23 includes 321 students. This represents approximately 30% of the junior class and is approximately 75% of pre-covid applications. We want to extend special appreciation for the 70 faculty and staff who participated in the study abroad application review helping evaluate over 350 applications. We were delighted that over half of the reviewers were first-time readers and we had participants from departments across the university. We notified students whether their applications were approved on February 4 and were able to accept all qualified applications. Thank you to all our new and returning faculty/staff reviewers!

Our peer advisors have been busy hosting Express Advising, tabling at events around campus, and meeting prospective students for advising appointments.
