Nowruz 2025
Nowruz is March 20 - Happy Persian New Year! Nowruz is Farsi for “new day” and honors the beginning of spring. It is observed by people around the world, including in the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East, and more.
One of the most important traditions during Nowruz is preparing the Haft-Sin Table, the table of seven things that start with the letter “s.” Each item is a symbol of spring and renewal. Families gather to collect apples, garlic, coins, mirrors, sumac, vinegar, and more for the Haft-Sin table. Families also cook, clean, shop, and visit, taking the thirteen days of Nowruz celebrations as an opportunity to renew their bonds to one another.
