Learning Through Education and Service
I am sincerely grateful for your support through the Santa Clara Fund, which helped provide scholarship assistance for me to attend Santa Clara. My education means the world to me and the fact that I can benefit from a Jesuit education at Santa Clara University is as good as it gets.
I am in my sophomore year and can already see how a Jesuit education is impacting me. I am learning to value and serve others while at the same time growing and developing personally. The high school I attended was built upon the practice of Serviam, and I participated in service, but here at Santa Clara I am beginning to understand for the first time that my service impacts me as much as the people I serve.
St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits, wanted to educate. I know a Jesuit education is meant to be flexible and adaptable and students are taught to reflect on their own experience. This knowledge or practice captures my curiosity and as a result I have been fearlessly taking on new challenges and experiences. It is sometimes overwhelming, but always rewarding.
This year, I am excited to be a part of the Executive Board for the Retail Management Institute (RMI), which is one of my two minors (my other minor is Management Information Systems). As a member of the Executive Board, I am on the Recruiting/Marketing Committee.
I am surprised by what I have learned about myself so far, and realize that my potential is greater than I would have imagined. For this I credit my professors, the Santa Clara staff, and the students I have encountered. Thanks to you and your support through the Santa Clara Fund, I know there is more knowledge to come! Thank you for this opportunity.
