Energy Display Module (ENGR 110, Spring 2017)
Students: Claire Hultquist, Cole Christman, Razma Mogharrab
Advisor: Jes Kuczenski
A survey of 15 SCU students was conducted as a part of this project to find that 66% of these students were unaware of their energy use. These students reported they would be more likely to adopt a sustainable lifestyle if this information was more readily available. To increase awareness, the design built on a past student project, “The Energy Bike”. An electronic device was connected to the bike to demonstrate to users how much mechanical energy is required to power that specific device. The size of the back wooden platform was reduced to the make the system more portable. A 12 volt DC to 120 volt AC inverter and a battery was attached to the rear to generate enough voltage to power a small electronic device.
