ShopBot
The ShopBot is a CNC router for cutting, drilling, machining, and shaping wood, plastic, and foam. In the Maker Lab we have a ShopBot Desktop.
Quick Reference
Training Required: Basic Training and ShopBot Training
Workspace: Width 24", Length 18", Depth 4"
Materials: Wood (plywood, hardwood, MDF, etc.); Plastics (ABS, acrylic, polycarbonate, HDPE, etc.); and Foam (Urethane foam, Insulated foam- pink and blue); NO FIBERGLASS
File Types: SBP (Use Fusion 360 CAD/CAM to save g-code as a ShopBot Part file)
Material Fees: Minimal material available in scrap bins. Best to bring your own material for ShopBot.
Common Terminology: CAM (Computer-aided manufacturing)- type of software used to control machine tools; Collet- sleeve used to hold a tool (or bit) in a central position as it rotates; Wasteboard- surface for holding project material down that protects the machine and tooling from damage when routing through the project material.

Software for creating 3D model:
You can use any 3D modeling software, but you will need to import your model into Fusion 360
AutoDesk Fusion 360 is free CAD/CAM software for education.
