Dear SCU Community,
The Engineering Diversity & Inclusion Council invites you to attend our panel discussion:
“Walking the Walk Together”
Thursday, June 18, 6-7 p.m. PDT
Join our Livestream: www.scu.edu/engineering/diversity/council
In response to the recent killings of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery and the unrest affecting our community and the world, the Engineering Diversity & Inclusion Council presents to the community a panel series featuring guest STEM Leaders, titled “Walking the Walk Together.” With this panel we want to support our community around social justice, and hope to start conversations about allyship cross-culturally. This includes informing people who want to learn more about understanding their privilege and how to leverage it in allyship, as well as turning our understanding into actionable steps.
Panelists:
Nehemiah Mabry: Founder of STEMedia, Structural Engineer, STEM Educator and Social Entrepreneur. Over 8 years of research at NASA.
Tracy Fanara: Founder of Inspector Planet, Co-Founder of Seekers of Science comics, Environmental Engineer, contributor to Science Channel’s "What on Earth" and "Mythbusters:The Search," Weather Channel’s "AMHQ" and "Weird Earth."
Taryn Southern: Director of I Am Human, speaks around the globe about immersive storytelling, the future of influence, and creative applications of AI, blockchain, VR/AR, and biotech.
Korie Grayson: Biomedical Engineer, Featured on Forbes, Cancer researcher.
There is a long history of oppression, racism, brutality, and white supremacy in this nation and in the world. However, there are steps we can all take moving forward to turn our words and thoughts into actions, to rid our society of these practices.
