Terry Shoup (mechanical engineering) was awarded ASME Honorary Membership in recognition of a lifetime of contribution as a researcher and educator, and service to the engineering profession. Shoup served as ASME President in 2006-07, was inducted into the Silicon Valley Engineering Hall of Fame in 2011 and received the SCU President's Special Recognition Award for service to the University in 2012. | |
Robotic Systems Laboratory students, staff, and faculty Jose Acain, Kamak Ebadi, Thomas Adamek, Mike Rasay, and Christopher Kitts, were awarded the Best Student Paper Award for "A Multi-Robot Testbed for Adaptive Sampling Experimentation via Radio Frequency Fields," at the 2015 ASME/IEEE International Conference on Mechatronic and Embedded Systems and Applications. | |
Matthew Chin and Michael Neumann, (Robotics Systems Lab), along with advisor Christopher Kitts (mechanical engineering), were awarded the Best Student Paper Award for "Object Manipulation Through Explicit Force Control Using Cooperative Mobile Multi-Robot Systems" at the International Conference on Intelligent Automation and Robotics. | |
Mohit Nalavadi, a senior bioengineering student writes about his own experience disrupting the status quo through his work delivering clean water in Honduras and an efficient method for making clay roof tiles in Rwanda through his participation in Engineers Without Borders. COP21: SCU joined more than 200 colleges and universities in signing the American Campus Act on Climate Pledge. The White House reached out to Edwin Maurer (civil engineering), who enlisted the help of campus colleagues Lindsey Kalkbrenner, Chris Shay, and Mike Hindery to produce a pledge and contribute to the effort. Engineers Without Borders Update: In 2012, our EWB student team presented a hygiene curriculum to the El Pital, Honduras, Water Board in a series of workshops. Recently, local NGO Un Mundo has presented the curriculum and a student-produced hygiene video to all of the households in El Pital. Imagine the impact that has had on the community! More. | |
Ghana Library Update: Since 2009, SCU civil engineering senior design students have designed and built sustainable structures in Gambibgo, Ghana. Recently the library was equipped with solar lighting. Robert Van Buskirk (Latimer Energy Lab mentor) provided the equipment. See for yourself how happy this made the kids in Gambibgo, here. | |
