Sustainable Energy Program
A different kind of program for some of the world's most critical challenges prepares ethical, proficient engineers to lead the way to a sustainable future.
Twenty-first century problems demand holistic thinking to effectively address the social, environmental, and economic impact of emerging energy technologies. We offer a graduate certificate in renewable energy and multi-disciplinary master's degree in sustainable energy. Both offerings balance deep technical expertise with practical application experience, while also promoting understanding of the economics, public policy, and ethics that shape the industry.
A broad and ever-increasing range of courses—power systems, smart grid, energy management, security, and infrastructure, to name a few—are complemented by lectures, workshops, and field trips offered quarterly by our energetic Energy Club. Fuel your passion for energy engineering as you train alongside Silicon Valley professionals to meet the changing demands in energy and fulfill a pressing need in the rapidly growing renewable energy market in our Valley and in the world.
Mission and Goals
Our mission in the energy field is to provide a strong curriculum in engineering that will enable our graduates to be competent in design, management, and maintenance of energy systems, as well as respecting our natural resources. To accomplish this important mission, we have formulated the following program goals:
• To produce graduates who understand the new trends in renewable energy generation and distribution and can innovate in technology while promoting environmental sustainability, thereby meeting two of the greatest challenges in modern times;
• To educate professionals whose work will be guided by an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the social, political, ethical, and legal relationships between their work and those that it affects;
• To promote and foster teaching and research collaborations between Engineering, Business (management, economics and finance) and Law.
