Pak to explore the use of active vesicles for development of novel therapeutic delivery systems

With funding support from the National Science Foundation, the project will unlock the potential of active lipid vesicles for directed delivery and controlled release of therapeutic payloads.

Professor On Shun Pak with the Mechanical Engineering Department and (by courtesy) Applied Mathematics Department has received a $232,000 award from the National Science Foundation to support his project "Collaborative Research: Unlocking the Potential of Active Lipid Vesicles for Directed Delivery and Controlled Release of Therapeutic Payloads". Pak will combine theoretical modeling with experiments (in collaboration with Professor Jie Feng from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) to advance the fundamental understanding of the dynamics of active vesicles, thereby guiding the development of the vesicle-based drug delivery system.
