Makerpreneurship: Incorporating Maker Labs into an EML Program

Join us for a 1 day KEEN Makerpreneurship Workshop!

Workshop Objectives: This workshop will explore the incorporation of Maker Labs into the undergraduate engineering curriculum with an emphasis on promoting entrepreneurially minded learning (EML). Best practices and example resources from various institutions will be shared, with planned topics to include:

  • Maker Lab campus models
  • EML modules and courses
  • Industry engagement
  • Startup: equipment, staffing, safety, training
  • Co-Extracurricular linkages
  • Community/Outreach engagement

This event is sponsored by KEEN, the SCU School of Engineering, and possible industry partners. The event is open to all university educators with a priority given to KEEN faculty and staff. The event is limited to 60 participants.

Travel stipends are available for KEEN faculty and staff through SCU's current KEEN grant. For participants from KEEN Universities, contact Christopher Kitts at ckitts @ scu.edu, prior to registering to receive assistance for the registration fee and details about the stipend.

UAV Workshop

Conducting Real World Entrepreneurial Enterprises Using UAV Systems

Workshop Objectives: This informal workshop will 1) review Entrepreneurial Engineering Enterprises (EEEs) as a highly authentic EML educational approach, and 2) discuss methods and resources for conducting an EEE using Unmanned Aerial Systems as a technical theme. Agenda items will most likely include:

  • The EEE approach
  • UAV EEE examples
  • UAV legalities
  • Safety and liability
  • Student training
  • Certification

This event is an activity of a KEEN affinity group but, is open to any KEEN educators interested in UAVs and the EEE approach to EML. Total participation however is limited to 20. Travel stipends are available through SCU's current KEEN grant. Note that this workshop is the day after the KEEN Makerpreneurship Workshop, also being held at SCU. Combined participation is welcome.
