Each year, LGBTQIA+ Pride Month takes place from June 1 – June 30 to honor and celebrate the contributions on LGBTQ+ community members.
Pride Month was established to commemorate the Stonewall uprising on June 28, 1969, with the first Gay Pride Liberation March in 1970 to honor the one-year anniversary. It wasn’t until 1999, that Pride Month became official, when President Bill Clinton issued a Presidential Proclamation designating the month of June as “Gay and Lesbian Pride Month.”
Today, SCU joins in honoring and celebrating LGBTQIA+ PRIDE month with a series of different events and opportunities. Due to the timing of the end of the Spring quarter, SCU is beginning its PRIDE efforts in mid-May through mid-June.
