Asian Pacific Islander South Asian American Heritage Month

About

Each year, Asian Pacific Islander South Asian American (APISA) Heritage Month takes place from May 1 – May 31 to honor and celebrate the contributions of the Asian Pacific Islander South Asian American communities.

APISA Heritage month traces its roots back to 1978 when the first Asian Pacific American Heritage Week was established by Congress and signed by President Carter. In 1990, the commemorate week was expanded to a commemorative month but this required a yearly authorization. It wasn’t until 1992, that the commemorative month would be permanent.
