Inclusive Excellence Awards

HISTORY

In 2008, the Council on Inclusive Excellence established two awards to honor students, faculty, staff, campus organizations, and departments that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to enhancing Santa Clara University's multicultural community.

In 2015, the faculty award award was named for Professor Emeritus Francisco Jiménez (Modern Languages and Literatures), who received the first Faculty/Staff Inclusive Excellence award. Professor Jiménez is the author of a collection of autobiographical short stories, The Circuit: Stories from the Life of a Migrant Child (the University of New Mexico Press, 1997; Houghton Mifflin, 1999; Scholastic Press, 2000). The Santa Clara University Library's Archives & Special Collections is the repository of the Francisco Jiménez Papers, which are available for research and study. The collection has been organized and described and can be accessed via a descriptive guide, a related digital collection, or both.

In 2016, the student award was named after Gracelyn Rillorta Bateman '12 and former recipient. In addition, the staff category was made into a stand-alone award.
