Religious Diversity

All Are Welcome

You Belong Here

One of the greatest things about Santa Clara University is its robust religious, spiritual, and worldview diversity. Religious and spiritual diversity is such an important value here at SCU not in spite of our Jesuit, Catholic tradition, but because of it. As we learn from one another and connect across our differences, we contribute to a richer and more meaningful community, and deepen in our own understanding and commitments. Here in Campus Ministry we strive to promote, engage, and celebrate our religious and spiritual diversity in all we do. No matter which religious or spiritual tradition you affiliate with, what process you may be in your spiritual journey, or if you are unaffiliated with religion and spirituality as a whole (or somewhere in between it all) we are so excited to grow with you, learn from you, and make sure you are cared for, celebrated, and nurtured during your time here. Here at SCU, you belong.

Upon being hired at SCU, Elizabeth Rand, Campus Minister for Religious and Spiritual Diversity, convened students from various faith and ethnicity-based groups and invited them to discern together how they could create a multi-faith and multicultural community at SCU. Together, Rand and the students have created a number of multicultural and multi-faith Mosaic events.

Hands Stacked from Immersion trip
Bridge Building Conversations

Students gather in classrooms and small informal groups to practice bridge building practices of listening for understanding and storytelling, helping us connect with one another across our diverse identities and experiences and find common ground.

Religiously Affiliated Student Groups

Santa Clara University students represent a beautiful diversity of faith and wisdom traditions. Student-led religious organizations offer you an opportunity to grow and deepen in your particular tradition, or to learn about a tradition that is new to you, supported by a community of friends. Many of these student-led religious organizations can also connect you with local faith communities. We encourage you to try different groups to find the place that most resonates with your heart and soul.

SCU Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that SCU sits on the land of the Ohlone and Muwekma Ohlone people, who trace their ancestry through the Missions Dolores, Santa Clara, and San Jose. Daily, we must acknowledge and remember their connection to this region and give thanks to them for allowing us to live, work, learn, and pray on their traditional homeland, not only here but across the United States by all Native American people. Please take a moment of silence to pay respect to their Elders and to all Ohlone people of the past and present.
