Mary Gordon Essay Prize

The Mary Gordon Prize awards excellence in feminist scholarship produced by a graduating Women’s and Gender Studies major or minor. The prize is named for Professor Mary Gordon, the first director of Women’s Studies at Santa Clara University, and was established by her daughters, Alexandra and Eve Gordon, in honor of their mother’s interest in and distinguished contributions to women’s issues, the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, and Santa Clara University.

Nina Leibman Essay Competition

This award honors the memory of Nina Leibman, author, communication scholar, mother, and friend to many in the Santa Clara University community. All Santa Clara undergraduates from any major are invited to submit essays of 8-15 pages, or equivalent projects, that critically examine creative expression or representations of gender and/or sexuality. The award includes a $50 prize.

Audre Lorde Social Justice Award

The Audre Lorde Social Justice Award recognizes graduating seniors who exemplify the activist ideals of Women’s and Gender Studies. A resume and essay are both required for submission. The resume demonstrate's the student's activist experience while the essay provides a brief explanation of how the student's activism has advanced the aims of Women's and Gender Studies.
