Beyond the Classroom

WGST and Into the Wild Collaboration

On the weekend of April 1st, 2024, the WGST department collaborated with Into the Wild (SCU's outdoors club) for an overnight trip to Salt Point State Park. We stopped at Bodega Bay for hiking and lunch, then headed to our campsite. There, we enjoyed activities like polar plunging, shared delicious food, told stories, and built a strong sense of community with our peers and professors. It was a fantastic way to reconnect with nature and strengthen our bonds as a department.

Feminist Mural Art Walk

On March 15th, 2024, the WGST department went on a feminist mural walk in San Francisco in honor of Women’s History Month. Elaine Chu and Marina Perez-Wang, founders of Twin Walls Mural Company, guided the tour where we visited the Manifestation of Ixchel, The Rebirth of Coyolxauhqui, La Flor de la Vida, and Ubuntu. There was an additional stop at the Women’s Building where the artwork titled, MaestraPeace, is painted on. Throughout the tour, the WGST department was told about the stories of Elaine and Marina, the stories and background of their work, and general history of art in areas of the Bay Area such as San Francisco.group of students and faculty in San Francisco
