Consulting professor in Human Biology at Stanford University and the founding president of the Global Fund for Women, Anne Firth Murray presented an evening lecture entitled “From Outrage to Courage: Women Taking Action for Health and Justice.” The Global Fund for Women is the largest non-profit organization in the world dedicated to seed, strengthen, and link groups committed to women‘s well-being. An expert in international health policy and women’s reproductive health, Ms. Murray is the author of two major books: Paradigm Found: Leading and Managing for Positive Change, and From Outrage to Courage: Women Taking Action for Health and Justice. Ms. Murray is the recipient of numerous awards and honors for her work on women‘s health and philanthropy, and in 2005 she was nominated as one of a group of 1,000 women for the Nobel Peace Prize. Discussing the global rights of women had set the tone for the course of the symposium; enlightening and reminding the audience - students, staff, faculty and members of the community - that women's rights is a multifaceted issue. Ms. Murray’s talk reminded student Hannah Richards ’15 that “Women's health is not determined by a set of isolating factors; it is determined by a continuum of occurrences and circumstances throughout the life course.”
