The College of Arts and Sciences JEDI Council is a group that embodies the ideals of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion – ideals that are central to the vision, goals, and strategies of our College.

The JEDI Council emerged from the Implementation Task Force of the University Blue Ribbon Commission on Inclusive Excellence and from its inception has worked diligently to guide our College towards a more inclusive and equitable future. The Council members work with Dean Daniel Press, Associate Dean Linda Garber, and Dean's Special Advisor Maggie Hunter on the integration of JEDI principles across all facets of our academic community.

The JEDI Council has championed faculty cluster hires that focus on Race, Inequality, and Social Justice. Their efforts have extended to reward JEDI contributions through the faculty evaluation process, recognizing the importance of weaving these values into the fabric of our institution. Their commitment is evident in the centralization of JEDI resources for easy access on the College website. Their exploration of the place of diversity and equity in the curriculum will help to guide the College and the University as we undertake to revise the Core.

This last year, the JEDI Council joined with many others on campus to urge our University to seek a Hispanic Serving Institution designation, which would have profound benefits for our students and our greater community.

We recognize the collective accomplishments of individuals who have woven justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion into the tapestry of our College's identity. Anna Sampaio (who co-founded the group with Linda Garber), Christelle Sabatier, Amy Randall, Sharmila Lodhia, Katy Korsmeyer, and Sandy Boyer – each member has played a valuable role in shaping our College's trajectory and embodying the spirit of service that defines the Dean's Service Award.
