Francisco Jiménez: Movie “The Unbroken Sky” produced based on his memoirs and other updates
Francisco Jiménez had his story “Cajas de cartón” included in Galerías, a Spanish textbook, published by Vista Higher Learning, Boston, MA, 2023. “Conexiones” a chapter from his book, Senderos fronterizos, was included in Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s World Language Program, Boston, MA, 2023. And his stories "Cajas de Cartón" and "Expulsados" were included in Realidades published by Saavas Learning Company. He made presentations on his work and on César Chávez at Oregon State University for their Spanish for Heritage Language Learners Program, the College Assistance Migrant Program, and the Office of Institutional Diversity, March 8 and 9. He made in-person presentations at SCU for three high schools that have adopted his work in their curriculum and brought students to visit him: Tennyson High School students and teachers, Hayward, California, January 18; Foothill Technology High School AVID students and teachers, Ventura, California, February 23; and Los Baños High School students and teachers, March 20. He also gave a presentation on his work and on the importance of education at a school assembly at Sacred Heart Nativity School, San Jose, on February 8, 2023. On April 19, he made a public presentation on his writing at Utah Tech University in St. George, Utah. He gave a talk in a Young Adult Literature graduate class that read his work, The Circuit, and he made a presentation, in Spanish, on his work for students in a dual language immersion program. In addition, a short dramatic movie based on his memoirs titled “The Unbroken Sky” was produced by Normandie Productions, a small independent film company. The film has been entered into film festivals in the U.S. and abroad.
