Senior Spotlight: Ryan Johnson
Ryan Johnson is a senior at Santa Clara University and will be graduating with a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science. After graduation, Ryan will be attending a masters program in Computational Finance and Risk Management at the University of Washington. Johnson first came to Santa Clara from Seattle, Washington in the Fall of 2014 and chose SCU because of the beautiful campus and small classes where he could get to know his professors. Getting to work closely with his professors afforded Ryan many opportunities, like being a Research Assistant for Professor Manna on a data science project.
On top of excelling in courses like Partial Differential Equations, Advanced Calculus, and Abstract Algebra, Ryan was president of the Math/CS Society and Pi Mu Epsilon, the mathematics honors society. Ryan's favorite course at SCU was Mathematical Finance, which is a cross listed course in applied math, finance, and math. In this course, Ryan enjoyed learning about financial instruments while helping graduate students in finance learn theoretical mathematics. Outside of his own studies, Ryan tutored with the Drahmann Center and the Math Learning Center. He takes pleasure in communicating mathematics and seeing other students succeed.
