Dear College Faculty and Staff,
Greetings from sunny Santa Clara!
Earlier this week, I addressed SCU’s Frontline Fundraisers for the first time. I shared with them the College’s fundraising priority for the rest of this academic year—the REAL Program. Now, more than ever, I believe it is important to ensure our students get opportunities to engage in experiential learning to help discern their career paths. In my career I have witnessed hundreds of transformative internships, but most have been done for academic credit during the regular year. The REAL program is invaluable in providing paid, summer internships – please strongly encourage your students to apply!
There have been multiple important student-faculty dialogues held on campus over the past couple of weeks. These are critical opportunities for student voices to be heard by those at all levels of campus. I find it tremendously valuable to hear how difficult it has been, especially for first-gen students, to navigate college during the pandemic. Thank you for the compassion, patience and flexibility you are showing our students; all these gestures matter more than ever.
As you all have heard, starting next week, Santa Clara County will begin vaccinating those in phase 1B which includes the education sector—all of us! I highly encourage you to set up an appointment to get vaccinated and help bring us one step closer to safely returning to campus.
Sincerely,
Daniel
