Jackie Melberg Contributed to a Filoli’s Architectural Survey Project

After recording information on every structure on the 509 acre Filoli property for a survey to be used by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, “my next task was to go through the extensive amount of blueprints that the Filoli staff and volunteers have found/collected over the last 25 years and take inventory. I believe I looked over 1,000+ blueprints during my summer, some which were cool finds! For example, as I was digging through a miscellaneous pile of blueprints I found a rare, original plan for one of the first Manson Shipping boat liners dating back over 115 years (Captain Manson’s daughter was the second resident of Filoli). This eight week internship was great because I saw how my history major could be used as a career and I got a crash course on architecture and California history. I loved working for Filoli and I hope SCU and the REAL program continue their partnership with this great organization!”
