McPhee Prize
The McPhee Prize is an annual award, established in 2007 through the generosity of Lulu and John McPhee, given to the student who authored the most outstanding paper in a senior seminar. Katherine Porter’s prize-winning paper was “Press Coverage of Internal Divisions over Reform Judaism, 1905-1920: A Classic Tale of the American Progressive Movement.”

Mehl Prize
This prize, established in 1993 by the History Department in memory of friend and benefactor Frederick Mehl, is given to the student who writes the best senior thesis. Hector Navarro won for his paper “Creating Masculinity and Homophobia: Oppression and Backlash Under Mexico’s Porfiriato.”

Redwood Prize
The Redwood Prize, established in 1908 by the executive committee of The Redwood, is given to the student who writes the best essay on an historical subject. This year’s winner was Michelle Runyon for her paper "‘Gives to Bigotry No Sanction': The Dangers of Continued Misinterpretation of Washington’s Letter to the Jews of Newport."
