John Farnsworth Publishes New Book, Will Retire From Teaching This Summer

The oldest university press in the country, Cornell University Press, recently announced that it will be publishing a book by ESS’s John Farnsworth next summer. Coves of Departure: Field Notes from the Sea of Cortez, was described by Cornell U.P.’s senior acquisitions editor as “a love song to nature.” The book narrates the author’s experience teaching ESS Alumni enrolled in the Baja program over a period of ten years, during which time Dr. Farnsworth led a total of 160 SCU students on sea kayaking expeditions in the Sea of Cortez. The book also highlights Dr. Farnsworth’s research at various field stations, including his work with California Condor restoration in the mountains of northern Baja.
