Agroecology: a Transdisciplinary, Participatory, and Action-oriented Approach

ESS faculty member Chris Bacon and colleagues co-edit a new book.

Christopher Bacon has co-edited a book, Agroecology: A Transdisciplinary, Participatory and Action-oriented Approach (CRC Press / Taylor & Francis Group). This collection of work engages social actors working at different geopolitical scales to transform the global agrifood system. The first section develops the conceptual approach, applies it to explain new empirical research from Chris's work in northern Nicaragua and recent studies by his colleagues in Vermont, and finally analyzes obstacles and opportunities to scaling-up sustainable agricultural practices. The second section presents case studies from Latin America, Europe, and the United States. This volume illustrates how agroecology can improve food systems, and lays the groundwork for the continued co-production of knowledge and development of further innovations.
