Multimodal Writing Prize Winners, Honorable Mention and Featured Entries
Multimodal Writing Prize Writing Program, Department of English, 2013
The Writing Program in the Department of English would like to announce the winner of the first annual Multimodal Writing prize, which was given at the Senior Dinner & Awards Ceremony on May 21.
Winner and Honorable Mention:
The winner, Santa Clara junior Alexander Nouaux, won a $100 dollar prize. Created for Olin Bjork’s (English) Introduction to Writing and Digital Publication Class, Nouaux’s project, “Brick Lane iTour,” is an enhanced podcast and website that guides the user on a cultural and historical journey down London’s Brick Lane. According to Nouaux, Brick Lane is a short block that along with good eats and tourist destinations “has gone through many dramatic changes over the years largely due to the numerous immigrant groups that have called this area home. This notion still holds true today with the wave of Bengali immigrants, but Brick Lane is also shaped by the wave of youth and street culture.”

We would also like to announce an Honorable Mention, Avery Unterreiner. Created for Renee Billingslea's (Communication) Exploring Society Through Photography class, Unterreiner’s piece “It’s Been One Year” combines photographs of her grandfather with a monologue written from his perspective.
