In Support of Danielle Morgan and her Family
Dr. Danielle Morgan’s colleagues in the English Department condemn the racism, anti-Black profiling, bullying, and mistreatment committed against Dr. Morgan, her visiting brother, her husband Matt Morgan, and their children on August 22, 2020. Learning how she and her family were treated by SCU employees who are supposed to make our community safe within the context of SCU’s values, including its commitment to racial justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion, grieves us.
We urge the university to take immediate steps--in dialogue and consultation with Dr. Morgan and her family and other BIPOC faculty, staff, students, and alumni--to make sure that this sort of racial profiling and abuse is not repeated at SCU. And we pledge to do all we can to make sure our interactions in and outside the classroom change SCU’s campus culture to promote the safety and well being of BIPOC students, staff, faculty, and visitors to campus.
